On first look, the portray titled ‘View of Scheveningen Sands´ looks like an ordinary day at the beach but after further research, it was discovered that the people were there for a reason. Hidden under a layer of paint and old polish was a dead whale. The image was repainted to avoid public outrage in the 18th or 19th century.
