12. Fable: Greenland is greater than Africa
Mercator projections (the best way we flatten out maps) inflates the scale of objects away from the equator. That means landmasses akin to Greenland and Antarctica seem a lot bigger than they really are relative to land plenty close to the equator.
Africa is 11,730,000 sq miles and Greenland simply 836,000. So don’t belief the linear map. Do a little analysis as a substitute.
