A passing vehicle noticed Violet the dog, along with several other dogs, all restrained with excessively heavy metal chains. These chains not only limited their freedom to move around but were also causing them harm.
At approximately 2 years old, Violet was found in a dire situation, and Angela Stell, the founder and director of NMDOG, surmised that she had spent her entire life chained up.
Violet, along with five other dogs, was found on a property in New Mexico, where the law prohibits keeping dogs chained unless they are under direct human supervision.
NMDOG alerted the local county sheriff’s department, who visited the property to try and locate the owners. However, it appeared that the dogs had been abandoned. NMDOG took custody of all the dogs, including Violet, marking the start of their rehabilitation and recovery journey.
“Violet was quite scared and remains somewhat wary,” Stell commented. Given her behavior, it’s suspected that Violet may have experienced mistreatment.
Thankfully, the puppy is now in good health and making progress in healing from her emotional trauma. She will be ready for adoption once her recovery is fully complete!
